31 March 2020 – Day 5

Tuesday is our weekly domestic worker’s day and even though Leah had gone to stay with her mom in Mpumalanga, where they will be somewhat safer than in Alexandra, Roger and I are going ahead with some of the normal Tuesday housekeeping tasks.

Today is our 21st wedding anniversary. We got married on a Wednesday at a nursery in Modimolle.

Roger had a flight in the morning. He was a first officer with Comair at the time and when the captain announced that it was his wedding day all the passengers applauded. The Air Traffic Controller even gave them the left runway to land on! That was very special and saved some time; He still had to travel to Modimolle to be in time for our wedding at 14h00.

My sister Cynthia organised for her boss, the Chief Magistrate, to perform the ceremony at the nursery, rather than for us to go to their offices. She also organised the venue and eats. Only close family members and two friends attended. It was an intimate tea/coffee and cake affair with some celebratory bubbly thrown in.

Afterwards, we drove back to Pretoria and had dinner at our favourite French restaurant, la Madelleine.

The weekend after our wedding was Easter Weekend, which we spent in Cape Town. Our ‘honeymoon’ was scheduled for August, but that is another story…

We always try to do something special for our anniversary. This one will be different but still special; we are cooking in (obviously!) instead of going out. The desert was made yesterday and looks wonderful.
