6 June 2020 – Day 72

We slept very well in Ufudu, as we always do. The night was cold but today is sunny and warm.

Roger borrowed a vehicle and went to Silver Creek after breakfast while I opted to stay behind and do my own thing. I am enjoying the sunshine and the expansive view, watching and listening to all the bird is just such a pleasure.

Eugene and Marlene went to deliver chicken manure pellets which he manufactures. It is very much in demand as a fertiliser at the moment (they have a permit, by the way). So, I had the whole plot to myself for a while…

We went for a long walk along their boundary this afternoon to inspect the veggie patch and also to feed the neighbours’ donkey. He has become so accustomed to the daily treat that he comes running to the fence the moment he hears the dogs.

Feeding the donkey reminded me of the last time we went to the UK. Somewhere in Scotland we passed a farm stall. The farmer had a young Highland bull animal named Hamish. He was absolutely adorable. He would come running as soon as a vehicle stopped at the stall, peeking through his shaggy fringe with those inquisitive eyes, full of expectation. Visitors could not resist; they would buy the farmer’s veggies, then walk over and offer it to the animal. A win-win for the farmer, the animal and tourism. There is a lot to be said for Scottish sense of business!

For evening meal, we had build-your-own pizzas made in Eugene’s excellent, own-built pizza oven. A wonderful evening of fun, food and social interaction.

Always fun and delicious
