25 May 2020 – Day 60

I cannot believe that it has been 60 days! Well, at least the President promised that alcohol may be sold again, the restriction on exercise hours will be relaxed and the evening curfew will be lifted. I am still slack jawed that the cigarette ban remains. I am firmly of the opinion that NDZ has a hidden, personal agenda or interest and she is now trying to save face. I am so disappointed. I remember the first thing she did when she became Minister of Health in 1994 was to ban smoking in public places. I was so happy that I declared I would kiss her feet, should I ever meet her. Now, I think she is taking it a bit too far. I hope the tobacco corporations appeal. Imagine Tito Mboweni’s frustration over the lost revenue.

Roger was very quiet during the address, trying very hard to stay calm. I think he just didn’t feel like doing the dishes again!

After our walk and breakfast this morning we went to Carreira’s in Randburg again. There was no queue at the veggie shop and the produce was, as always, fresh and affordable. A worth-while trip.

The first crop of sprouts was ready and I added some to our lunch-time salad today. It was delicious. There was even some left to share with our vegetarian neighbour.

There are 4 of these containers in the pack so Roger started the batches 1 day apart

We bought another veggie planter on a recent trip to the nursery. There is very little sun in our garden so Roger decided to put this one on top of the dividing wall between us and our neighbour.

Note our shady garden on the right.

I started developing a headache this afternoon. Probably just the usual seasonal sinusitis.

12 hunters were arrested for illegal hunting on a farm in the Eastern Cape. Their 32 dogs were taken to the NSPCA and knives were confiscated. I am wondering if they were hunting (poaching) because they could not work and needed to feed their families. Something to think about…

The list of academics that came out in support of Prof. Gray had increased to more than 300.

Number of known positive cases: 22 583

Number of deaths: 429
