On Friday 2nd of September Roger and Sean participated in the annual The Children’s Flight event, held at the Orion Airfield. It is organised by pilot Felix Gosher and allows 500 children from underprivileged backgrounds the opportunity to fly for the very first time. It was a long, exhausting but satisfying day for all involved.
We had a fun family get-together at Eugene and Marlene’s plot on that first weekend. Unfortunately, Kevin, Lucy and Simoné were not there but it was good, nevertheless.
Roger decided to join me for a hike in Klipriviersberg on the 11th. I was very happy because, as it turned out, I was asked on the day before the event to be the hike leader. It worked well; Roger took the lead with the fast walkers while I brought up the rear with the slower members, encouraging and supporting a couple of hikers who were new and had underestimated the degree of difficulty.
The now annual EAA fly-in Pancake Day at Silver Creek Gorge was held on the 17th of September. Roger was the parking marshal again; a necessary task with no less than 80 aircraft arriving! There were many interesting stalls, and all the pancakes were sold, some 1500 of them. The event was once again a huge success.
How time flies! We attended Luke, Roger’s grand-nephew’s 1st birthday party on the 24th of September. Once again it was great to spend time with the family; Roger’s this time. What a privilege to still have Mom Ford and her sister Jean with us.
The highlight of the month was attending the Ndlovu Youth Choir’s concert at Monte Casino on the 30th. The choir was formed in 2009 by Ndlovu Care Group childcare community based in Elandsdoorn, Limpopo. We first saw them perform on America’s Got Talent Season 14 in 2019 where they made it to the finals. The concert was just WOW; I have no words. The talent, energy and positivity just lifts the spirit.
Our neighbour in Marloth Park sent us a photo after some rain, showing how well the berm Roger made during our previous visit works. The run-off goes onto our stand rather than causing a deep donga down the road. And besides that, we are very thankful for the rain…
After the very good rainy season the clivias in our garden at home in Rosebank put on a very good show this year!
And, of course, I cannot end this post without an update on Jan Louis. He is just the friendliest, most content little chap…
