September 2021

I’ve been a member of the Pick n Pay Wine Club for a number of years now and have never participated in their ‘Wine Table’ events. The events are normally fully booked within a short space of time after being advertised. This time round I saw it early enough and decided that we should give it a go.

A box of goodies was delivered at 9 am on the 9th of September, allowing enough time for the white wine to be chilled. The box contained Neil Ellis Groenekloof Sauvignon Blanc 750ml, Neil Ellis Stellenbosch Cabernet Merlot 750ml and Neil Ellis No Added Sulphur Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml as well as the ingredients to create three delicious canapés consisting of a Camembert cream brioche, cured beef with black cherry compote and dark chocolate truffle, to pair with the wines.

It was a Zoom event, with very clear instructions for login as well as some minor preparations that were required. So, Roger and I dressed up as if going to a restaurant and joined in the fun. The wines were discussed by winemaker Warren Ellis and the host chef, together with the food parings and the preparation of the canapés.

When we posted on our family group afterwards Adri immediately responded with:

“So, what were you wearing below deck?”

I can’t remember when last I laughed so much. She clearly understood about Zoom meetings!

Caught out!

It was a fun evening.

Roger and I had our 2nd vaccination on the 11th. Again, no side effects besides a tender arm for a day. Done and dusted. Can we move on now, please?

The Silver Creek Social Committee hosted their annual fly-in pancake event for the weekend of 17th/18th of September. Friday evening was a braai and open-air movie event and on Saturday morning there were pancakes for breakfast. It was a rather cold and windy morning, so the pancakes went down very well, as did the coffee from Wayne’s coffee trailer.

A good turnout
A good turnout, with some folk camping under the wing
Some flying, despite the wind
Pancakes
Mass production of pancakes. Over 1100 were produced and consumed!

All-in-all a good, successful, and fun event.

Kevin and Lucy flew up from Cape Town for the long weekend. Kevin was keen to have Lucy experience flying with Roger. She loved it and made a short video of the experience. Below is a frame-grab from her video:

Lucy & Roger

We all slept over at the Visagies but much to Kevin’s disappointment all the guys had a prior arrangement to go hunting for the weekend. Not that Roger or Kevin minded being the only guys amongst the girls, I might add.
