Rotonda to Pontecesures

The weather was crisp and clear today. In fact so ‘crisp’ that I wore my fleece top until 12 noon! It seems most farmers decided to start harvesting grapes today and I was fascinated by the small groups of people all socialising and chatting away while hand-picking under the vines. It seemed to be family or friend groups harvesting collaboratively. The harmony and sense of purpose was impressive.

In Caldas de Reis we visited the famous hot springs Fonte Caldas in the centre of town. At this public fountain you can soothe your feet for free. I did not partake as I have a thing about public hot spring water; but that is a story for another occasion.

We covered approximately 20 km today. And as on every other day it is wonderful to get the boots and backpack off, have a hot shower and a meal. One certainly comes to appreciate the simple things in life…

And may I add that I am happy to NOT be in SA tonight… (For posterity: on this day the Springboks lost the first Rugby World Cup 2015 match against the Japanese; SA is in shock!)

Only two days to go before we reach Santiago de Compostela.
