Rosebank, unscheduled…

By now I am sure you have also come to associate an unscheduled visit to Rosebank with some form of unpleasantness or discomfort. And this one was no exception; in fact, it was probably the worst of all.

We flew back taking all our dirty washing of the past few weeks as luggage and spent a day at home getting the laundry done, as well as cleaning up the garden and pond. Then we went through to Modimolle where my sister would be buried.

The funeral was on Saturday morning. It always seems so ironic that at some point in one’s life families seem to get together mainly for funerals. Be that as it may, it was good to see everyone, and it was unbelievably sad to say goodbye to Doreen. She had a hard, sad life and a very long illness. The proceedings offered the opportunity for closure and I feel at peace now, knowing that all her suffering is over…

On Sunday morning we returned to Cape Town, collected Suzi and got to Diemerskraal at about 16h30. We had no sooner unpacked and settled in when Daan and Jeanette again invited us for the evening. We had some good wine, homemade soup, and as always, good company. Thanks again Daan and Jeanette. It is people like you that make this world a better place.

Monday morning we were up early to get Ufudu to AC Motorhomes in Brackenfell where we had an appointment for some small issues to be sorted out. Ufudu was a hive of activity with people working inside, outside and underneath all at the same time, efficiently working their way through our snag list, as they always do. It reminded me of being at the dentist: there was drilling, moulding, grinding and cleaning!

Amongst other things, Kevin sorted out the knocking from the bearing under the floor which has been a constant irritation to Roger. He spot-welded the shaft in place and fitted the rubber mountings that Mike and Charlene had kindly given us.

By 16h30 everything was sorted out to Roger’s satisfaction. A big thank you to Hein and his team!

With a shock we realise that our year is almost over! We will now be making our way, slowly, towards home, aiming to be back around the 20th of September. But until then we still have a few stops to make and plan to enjoy them! We will start by moving up the coast towards the West Coast National Park…
