Rosebank – 3rd Visit

We planned a visit to our home in Rosebank with a few tasks in mind: voting, income tax returns, trailer license renewal and a few other things that had to be done e.g. our fish pond pump which needed to be replaced, etc. Then of course there is the usual visits to our favourite restaurants, watching a movie at Cinema Nouveau and spending time with friends and family. The timing coincided with the annual Wine Show at the Sandton Convention Centre, which we enjoyed as always, as well as the opening of an exhibition at my friends new art gallery (Lizamore & Associates Gallery).

We spent mother’s day with Roger’s mom and family at the Johannesburg Zoo where they have an annual ‘Mother’s Day Concert’. The weather was great, as it usually is during autumn in Gauteng, and of course it was great to see everyone again.

What wasn’t planned is that I had to undergo knee surgery! A few weeks ago, while we were at the Mountain Zebra National Park I had a fall and twisted my knee. This resulted in catching and locking of the knee, accompanied by pain and swelling, at the most inconvenient times and typically on a down-hill. A visit to the orthopaedic surgeon on Friday, followed by an MRI scan, confirmed a torn medial meniscus. They also detected a cyst in the bone near the medial ligament. The operation was performed on Monday (12th) and I am now recovering at home. This has been a rather unwelcome turn of events and will affect our plans in the short term.

A huge consolation was when my new binoculars arrived on Tuesday. Roger ordered them from Monty Brett about 6 weeks ago after mine were giving hassles. Vortex Viper 10×42; can’t wait to go bird-watching again!

Thanks to all my friends and family for your concern, phone calls, messages and support. I really appreciate it!

Watch this space for updates once we are on the move again, hopefully by the end of next week.

  1. Sorry to read about your knee. I’m hoping you guys win the lotto and keep doing this, we absolutely enjoy your updates so very much. Hope your knee heals quickly.

    1. Thanks for the well wishes Sharon. If we win the lotto we will pay for you and the gang to join us for an adventure!

  2. Hey Letitia – I’ll take you up on your offer, but in the meantime, if I win the lotto I’ll take all of you too on a journey of note… Sharon, start packing your African Safari shorts, hat and mosquito netting! Letitia & Roger, keep the engine running!

Seriously, hope your knee is settling down. You were positively down the last time we spoke, hope you’ve perked up a bit. But again I say, do NOT overdo anything and take it easy…. you dont what to mess it up permanently.

I’ve always wanted to go to Mothers Day at the Zoo… it must’ve been fun and you all look very relaxed. Perhaps next year for me….. I’m hoping to come visit soon, however, time this week won’t allow and next week already is half booked up. Leaving on holiday next week Friday morning, so I’ll also have to stock up and pack and then hand house keys over and ensure enough food for house-sitters, doggies, kitty, birdies of all descriptions and rats/mice 🙂

    Love you guys xxxxx

    1. Thanks for you visit yesterday Wendy, despite all the things on your plate! Enjoy your holiday and chat again soon. xxx
