After two nights at Marakele we headed north toward the Mokolo Dam. Roger had to see if Splash was still ‘sea-worthy’! Just as well. He spent most of the afternoon sorting out the engine which would not start. This was because Mr. Know-it-all did not follow the instructions to drain the fuel from the float chamber after the last use, knowing it would not be used for a while. The effect of this is that the needle got stuck and therefore flooded the engine with fuel.
After dismantling and cleaning the carburettor the problem was solved in time for a sunset cruise.
View of our campsite from the boat:
All was forgotten when Roger managed to hook (but not land!) a small bass the next morning.
As a general comment: we were very disappointed with the lack of ‘life’ in the dam and surrounds. The facilities were very run-down and there was no hot water or lights for our shower in the evening.
