Mbombela (Nelspruit)

We left the park via the Phabeni gate and headed towards Mbombela. The plan was to spend the night in the Municipal Camping site, but to our surprise there isn’t one in Mbombela. Thanks to Pauline’s recommendation we ended up at Lakeview Lodge and Caravan Park. What a nice surprise it turned out to be. The people were friendly and welcoming, the campsite was more than acceptable and there was a generally good feeling about the place.

And, most importantly, it had a small dam with fish in it!

Our first dinner consisted of mostly fresh salad and other yummy crunchy stuff. The fresh produce at the Park Shops was really dismal and expensive. We were therefore very happy go find a Woollies and were like children in a sweet shop!

We spent Saturday replenishing stocks, having brunch at Wimpy and getting ready to go back to Jo’burg. Johan, the campsite manager, was more than accommodating when we requested to leave Ufudu, Suzi and the trailer until we get back again.

We were travelling by InterCape bus to Park Station in Johannesburg, then on to the Gautrain to Rosebank and a short walk home. The plan is to fetch Buzz and fly back to Mbombela, so we could not take much luggage.

Karel, an employee at Lakeview Lodge, kindly took us to the bus stop on Sunday morning. The bus was scheduled to leave at 11h30 but was delayed until 12h00. It was a bit crowded and cramped because the bus was very full, but otherwise it was a pleasant trip.

We were home at 17h15. The house was very dusty so a quick vacuum and dusting was required. Of course there was no food in the house but we had been craving sushi for ages! Disappointment when the car’s battery was flat, so change of plan: we walked to Doppio for a pizza instead.

We will be spending about 10 days in Jo’burg/Pretoria to sort out some business and I may have a foot operation on Friday 29th so we will not be posting during this period. We will resume updates again once back in Mbombela. Remember that you can receive automatic email notification of posts if you sign up via the blog.
