28 May 2020 – Day 63

This morning was even colder than yesterday. I had my weekly Pilates session, so we weren’t going out to walk anyway, thankfully.

I received an email from Yuppiechef to inform me that our coffee machine is on its way. Looking forward to that. Now we need to sell the old one. We decided more than a year ago that we may only bring something new into the house if another thing leaves the house. So, if we cannot sell it we will donate it.

We had another incident outside our complex today. There were two bodyguards from a security company waiting outside on someone that was inside the complex. One of them was sitting on the low wall outside, talking on his cell phone. A car drove past very slowly, in the manner of Uber drivers. At the same time a pedestrian came walking along casually. Then, in a bat of an eyelid, the pedestrian snatched the phone from the guy’s hand and sprinted toward the still moving car that had just driven past, jumped in and they sped away. The bodyguard, who was caught completely ‘off guard’ jumped up and gave chase while drawing and aiming his firearm, but it was too late. The whole incident lasted 10 seconds! The entire sequence was captured on our security cameras, including a very clear view of the vehicle’s number plate so here’s hoping the police will be able to use it.

So brazen!

Orange Farm residents apparently are refusing to be tested. They lament the loss of jobs and say they will only believe the ‘stories’ about the virus once someone in their community dies. Until then it is life as usual; no social distancing and no masks either.

What is even more mind boggling is the fact that malls and shops will be fully open again from Monday onward, where people are in closed spaces, whereas open spaces such as parks and trails remain closed. You go figure.

And SAA are still insisting that the airline can be saved, given more money. They want to start operating next week. They have not made a profit since 2011!
