Home again!

The flight from Madrid to Paris was uneventful. There were a few tense moments at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris though. The flight was full; in fact it was over-booked, and some of the anxious folk that were waiting to hear whether they are loaded were full-fare passengers! And there is only one Air… Continue reading Home again!

Madrid

It was still dark when we got to the bus stop to catch the bus from Muxia back to Santiago. The mist from the sea caused a halo around the street lights; it was cold and eerily quiet. I felt sad in a way, knowing that this marked the end of my long awaited Camino… Continue reading Madrid

Muxia

It was a short bus trip from Finisterre to Muxia, a charming fishing village in Galicia in north-western Spain. Muxia is off the mainstream Camino path and not many pilgrims actually go there, so there were no albergue ‘recruiters’ waiting at the bus stop. It took us a while to find the Tourist Information Centre… Continue reading Muxia

The BIG day!

We were on the road by 7:30 am. It was still dark. The cold and mist created a mystical, eerie feeling which was heightened by my feeling of anticipation. Today was the big day… It was interesting to see the city come alive slowly, with cockerels announcing the new day and shutters opening here and… Continue reading The BIG day!

Pontecesures to Teo

We took it easy today; doing the Sunday thing. First we paid a visit to the local chapel. Then we went to a Monastery a few kilometres out of town where we spent about an hour; Leni in the chapel and me taking a nap with my head on my backpack. For the rest of… Continue reading Pontecesures to Teo

Rotonda to Pontecesures

The weather was crisp and clear today. In fact so ‘crisp’ that I wore my fleece top until 12 noon! It seems most farmers decided to start harvesting grapes today and I was fascinated by the small groups of people all socialising and chatting away while hand-picking under the vines. It seemed to be family… Continue reading Rotonda to Pontecesures

Pontevedra to Rotonda

We returned to the historic medieval town of Pontevedra to visit a few more points of interest and left our backpacks in the care of staff at the entrance of the Peregrina Shrine; a fitting place I thought! It was rather a disappointment that we could not enter the bullring, the only permanent bullring in… Continue reading Pontevedra to Rotonda

Arcade to Pontevedra

Mornings are a challenge; we have to leave the Albergue by 8am but it only gets light at 8! At night it is the inverse: twilight lingers until 9:30pm and restaurants only open at 8 or 8:30pm. By that time one is ravenous and very tired. Anyway, this morning a beautiful, clear day greeted us.… Continue reading Arcade to Pontevedra

Redondela to Arcade

When we awoke there was no change in the weather; it was still pouring, and dark. I was quite relaxed but Leni had a race against time. Literally. She had to collect her wallet and if she did not make it in time for the only train scheduled for the return trip, we would lose… Continue reading Redondela to Arcade
